IMMA - Museu de Arte Moderna / Irish Museum of Modern Art

Num desses fins de semana fomos ao Museu de Arte Moderna aqui em Dublin. Foi só uma caminhadinha básica até lá, já que moramos bem perto! (Sim, moramos perto de tudo, e essa é uma das melhores coisas aqui: poder andar a pé pra lá e pra cá!)

O IMMA ocupa o espaço de um então hospital, chamado Kilmainham Royal. (A principal função do hospital era na verdade de servir de casa aos soldados de guerra, quando se aposentavam, e esteve em funcionamento por 250 anos.)

É um prédio do século 17, que foi fundado mais precisamente em 1684, com uma arquitetura lindíssima. Aliás, cercado por jardins!  Ou seja, você vai lá para ver as exposições e instalações, e de quebra ainda pode caminhar pelos jardins, sentar um pouco e relaxar!

O estilo do prédio é fortemente influenciado pelo estilo do `Les Invalides` em Paris, com uma fachada formal e jardins elegantérrimos. O prédio foi restaurado em 1984, para então abrigar o Museu de Artes, que foi inaugurado em 1991.

A programacão deste mês era especial em comemoração ao aniversário de 20 anos do museu, com exposições de muitos artistas irlandeses, tanto dos artistas mais consegrados quanto a nova geração, que está crescendo internacionalmente.

In one of these weekends we visited the IMMA - Irish Museum of Modern Art here in Dublin. It was only a short walk from here, since we live pretty close to the museum! (Yes, we live close to everything, and this is one of the best things here: to be able to walk everywhere on foot!)

The IMMA occupies the space of a former hospital named Kilmainham's Royal Hospital. Its main function (for 250 years) was to serve as a home to the soldiers of war, when they retired.
It's a 17th century building (founded in 1684), with an impressive architecture. In fact, surrounded by gardens! You get to go there to see the exhibitions and installations, and you can also enjoy a walk through the gardens, sit and relax a little bit!
The building's style is based on `Les Invalides` in Paris, with a formal facade and fancy gardens. The building was restored in 1984, and then opened in 1991 as the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
The events of this month are special in order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the museum, with exhibitions of many Irish artists, both famous artists and also the new generation that you can see internationally.
